Thinking Digitally Summer Institute (TDSI)

TDSI is an annual institute co-hosted by ATLIS, the Digital Humanities Center, and the Center for Engaged Pedagogy. During TDSI faculty participants are offered tools and support to design assignments that critically engage with digital technologies. The multi-day institute includes workshops on digital methods and tools, discussions on accessibility, privacy and sustainability, collective practice and one-on-one consultations, and more.

TDSI 2025 was held from May 19 to May 23. Information about TDSI 2026 will be available in Spring 2026.

CSC/ATLIS Viz Wall Competition

The CSC/ATLIS Visualization Wall Competition is open to all undergraduate students in any discipline at Barnard and Columbia. We welcome projects that creatively use the Visualization Wall in Milstein 516, with its unique touch-sensitive capabilities. Themes vary each year; the top winning submissions receive a $500 grant and mentorship to help develop their proposals. Winning proposals are innovative projects, ranging from data visualizations to immersive storytelling, that push boundaries — students can use Generative AI or design programs, filmmaking, coding, and more to make artistic interventions that explore the relationship between Art & ______. View past winning submissions below that were presented during our annual Viz Wall Showcase.

Information about the 2026 Viz Wall competition will be available in Spring 2026.

Generative AI Learning Community

The Generative AI Learning Community provides space for students, staff, and faculty to explore and experiment with generative AI technologies. Co-hosted by ATLIS, the CEP, and the CSC, the community meets monthly during the Fall and Spring semesters. Activities have included talks from guest speakers,  community member presentations, hands-on tool demonstrations, small group discussions, and AI game playing. We're always open to new members within the Barnard and Columbia communities!
